5 Kittens Born to Goldi June 5

At 3 weeks old, there are 3 girls and 2 boys in this litter. It looks like there are four solids (no white, like a Siamese). One is a chocolate point. One is definately a bi-color (white face pattern).

These guys are ready to go today! They are all very inquisitive and full of piss and vinegar! They are all also very loving and great lap kittens.

We have all been sold, but you can still watch us grow on the Available Adults and Kittens page.

5 Kittens Born to Rosie April 19

The two directly below are still available.

As of Monday, June 27, Harley is now sold.

Harley was still available on Sunday, but sold on Monday. Smaller than all his siblings except Pearl, he's probably going to be an average-size Snowshoe, taking after his mother. He's very active and loves attention. There's time for play, and there's time for cuddles.

Moshi is still available. He's the biggest boy in the litter. I believe he will take after his dad, Chico.
He's a very sweet boy.

Rosie's April 19 Kittens From the Beginning

At 1 week old, it appears that there are 3 boys and 2 girls in this litter. There is defiinitely one solid (no white, like a Siamese), and I think

there's a high-white (more white on the body than the norm). The others are still a toss-up as to whether they will be mitted (white chin and chest) or bi-color (white face pattern).

And at 2 weeks, faces are coming along, but still no predictions from me.

Hank, left (sold), and Harley (available) are nearly mirror images of each other...were it not for Hank's half-pink nose. Harley still needs a forever home.

At 3 weeks, a little more change. We seem to have quite a variety!

This precious Pearl was the runt of the litter. Now she's nearly as big as the others and just as eager to see the world. But she hasn't decided on her points yet. So far, there are no points on her feet. She doesn't appear to be a chocolate point, the indicators aren't there. She might be another high-white, although she appears all white now with just light points on ears, nose, and tail. Well, we'll just have to wait and see.

Frankie loves to babysit the tiny kittens, and he LOVES to play with the older ones. Here he is with Puffer (left) and Harley (nine weeks old) at play.

3 Kittens Born to Taquita, aka "Quita" March 15 (all have been sold)

Let us outta here!

April 7: We aren't eating solid food yet, we aren't walking very steadily yet, but we sure are ready to get out and see the world! Momma loves it right now because we can't CLIMB yet either and she can keep us corraled! We'll have the climbing figured out in a jiffy though. Oh, boy, world, here we come! Next stop, the CHOW line!

April 11: First time away from Mom and first introduction to Frankie. Frankie is my soul-mate house kitty, a solid Snowshoe. He loves the kittens and always adopts them when given the chance. Left to right, bi-color boy, Simon, solid boy (sold but not yet named), and bi-color girl, Lilly. She is also long-haired. Simon has just spotted the two parrots on top of the cage behind me and the camera.
Our World Grows!

And so do we!

Available Young Adult

This is ChicQuita, daughter of Chico and Maggie and granddaughter of Twinkster and Quita, whom you see below sharing a window perch with ChicQuita. ChicQuita's two years old and has been spade. She has a mind of her own and definite catitude. I was going to keep her to show, but she decided I was not the boss. ChicQuita is a beautiful girl, but she does not like chaos and crowds. She prefers to have one people and special kitty friends, particularly one who will play with her. She nixed the showing thing, but she does like to ride in the car. While riding in the car, she loves sitting in my lap and leaning out the rolled-down window; yes, like a dog. When it is too cold to do so, she will snuggle in my lap for the ride. She is trained on a leash and halter, and she prefers to think that she is leading you. ChicQuita is special to me, but I must forge ahead to find that special show cat in my clan, so I must give her up, but only to the very special person she is waiting for.

Chi-Quita has found her forever home! She will be moving to the New York City area in mid-September. She will have a lovely home with other loving pets.

In Defense of the Solid Snowshoe

Goldi, the mother of the fall 2010 litter, shown a ways below, and the current Jue 5, 2011, litter, is a chocolate point. Her union with Chico generally produces a mix of chocolate and seal points, mitted, bi-color, and solids (no white, like a Siamese). Their union also produces kittens with outstanding personalities. I kept as pets two of their kittens from the previous year's litter, both chocolates, and their clever and loving personalities have made me wish I could keep all of Goldi and Chico's babies to myself! I will instead content myself with Truffle and Mocha and keep my eyes open for their perfect show- and breeding-quality sibling.

Somewhere in this litter (of 10!) is Frankie, my oldest pet Snowshoe. His momma is a solid, and he is too. I kept him for myself because we bonded when he was a kitten. Frankie has that special Snowshoe personality, and loving me is his greatest quality. He follows me around and sleeps on my pillow.

Next to loving me, Frankie's favorite thing is kitten-sitting. He bathes them and cuddles them, and when he thinks they are in trouble, he protects them. Just like a mom, he picks them up in his mouth and moves them to a safer location. All the moms trust him even with the newest born.

Meet Mocha and Truffle. These guys are solid chocolate points from Goldi's 2009 litter. I couldn't help it; I just had to keep them and see how they would turn out, both in points and personality. Notice their points are very light, their feet points especially. Mocha is very affectionate and laid back. His favorite thing is cuddling in my lap as close to my face as he can get.

Truffle (a.k.a. Trouble) is also very affectionate but most clever. He has mastered all the kitchen cabinet doors and is working on the drawers. Nearly every morning my first kitchen chore is closing cabinet doors. His nickname is "Trouble" because he's in that a lot! He is also a great begger. He thinks he should eat people food because I do. This is the face Truffle adopted for begging for people food. He perfected it as a kitten, but I didn't know he was working specifically on that in this picture. Soon after I "adopted" him, I suddenly noticed that he was creeping close to my dinner plate. When I looked at him, he was wearing this expression. He turns it on only when I am eating and he wants some too!

Here they are today. Still just as beautiful and personable as they were the day I fell in love with them, and every bit Snowshoe in their personalities. These guys are my kids!

Hey Mom, don't forget me!

Well, he isn't a solid, but I can't slight Popeye, my token mitted Snowshoe. He's actually my last keeper, not my first. Popeye is my in-your-face affectionate guy, literally! His love is bottomless!

This picture was taken the first day we got Gracie. Since then, we have also added a second parrot, an Eclectus. Everyone is getting along very well. Popeye likes to share a toy with Gracie, but is very respectful of her beak! He hasn't figured out yet that Gracie just wants to smooch with him like she does with me. (See the story of Emma below for more about the birds and cats.)

A Gallary of the Kittens of 2010

Emma, a Study of One of Those Distinct Shue Looks and Personalities

Emma is from Quita's June 8 kittens. She is a not-so-rare, but also not-so-common, long-haired Snowshoe. You could compare her to a Balinese, rather than a Ragdoll or Persian, in her hair length/thickness. It's much finer and not thick or wooly and most prevalent on her tail, belly, and ears.

.

Emma is a water-lover. She loves to play in a puddle made by spilled or running water, and she drinks her water from her paw, dipping it in the drinking water and then licking off the water, every time.

And a bird-lover? Perhaps! The jury was still out on that at the time these pictures were taken, but the bird didn't seem to be too worried about her. As it turned out, it was a game of tag and hide-and-seek between Emma and Gracie. That's Emma in the bag being persued by Gracie, an African Gray parrot I had recently acquired. And a short time later came an Eclectus parrot. She's still hanging around high places while she gets used to the cats' presence. What do the cats think about it all? "Equal time, Mom!" Whatever the birdies get, they DEMAND instant equality!

Goldi's Kits

Goldi's babies were born on September 6. One girl, Tess, a bi-color; and a boy, Tuffy, a solid. Mom Goldi is a solid and usually produces at least one solid in every litter. This little guy was not to be cast aside, however, just because he didn't have any white markings. His personality is every bit Snowshoe.

At 7 weeks, their first pictures taken on November 5.

Quita's babies, both girls, both mitted (white boots, chin, and chest, like their Daddy, Twinkster).

At 3 weeks, their first pictures and their first time out of the nest. I call them Half-Pint and Emma. Half-Pint is smaller than Emma and has a darker coat, favoring her Daddy, Twinkster.

.

Okay, okay, a lot of time has passed with no update. Our Meowm has been so busy taking care of us and all our family, the time just gets the best of her. But we are growing and thriving! We are now 10 weeks old, and here are pictures of us at 8 1/2 weeks. Just as Meowm thought, we are both mitted, taking after our Daddy.

We're taking a rest after a hard frolic. We have so many toys it takes us all day to play with them all!

Hi, I'm Tina. Because I have grown so much, my Meowm agrees that I am no longer a half-pint and has renamed me. I am still a bit smaller than Emma, but I am stout and very active.

.

Thank you everyone who inquired about Pistol, a solid from the March litter. Lots of people wanted to take her home. She found a home with her high-white brother, now called Bailey. Momma Rosie's little Pistol is now Rosebud. What a perfect name!

I call her "Pistol" because that's what she is! You could also call her "Spider" for her speed. She doesn't just run, she darts, like a spider. She's always very busy. Originally the runt of the litter, she's intent on proving that to be no problem at all. She's a wee bit smaller than the others, but a whole lot mightier! She'd love to have a human kitten to play with, or another critter would be good too. She would LOVE to go home with one of her siblings! This little girl is a solid and her points are darker than any of the other kittens'. She's going to be unique inside and out!

Five Babies Born
March 21st

First-time mom Rosie is very typically very protective of her babies, but for the first week she was very nervous when I picked them up to admire or check on their health. So I didn't take any pictures that first week. This is their debut, at 15 days old. On the right are a bicolor (white on the face and feet) boy and a high-white (he will have more white on his body than the other two), and the one on the left is a mitted (white on the chin and feet) female. The two in the bottom picture are solids, one girl and one boy. They have taken their Siamese heritage in pattern and have no white. But they will possess the unique Snowshoe personality. Solids in a litter between two mitted/bicolor parents are very common, and I generally have at least one per litter. I often send a solid to a new home along with a bicolor/mitted sibling.

Here are some close-ups of a solid, a mitted (2nd row left), and a bi-color. Below them is the high-white.

Look at these ears! This guy is a high-white. Most of the body pattern is yet to be revealed, but the ears are a dead giveaway!

A kinked tail! An old-style Siamese inheritance, with the modern Snowshoe mits. When I was a kid in the 50's, we raised Siamese kittens. At that time, Siamese commonly came with kinked tails and/or crossed eyes. Both have been pretty much bred out of the Siamese now, but once in awhile a kinked tail or crossed eyes will crop up in either the Siamese or the Snowshoe. This is my first kinked tail in my Snowshoes.

Here we are again at three weeks. We have most of our sea legs now and are curious about the world.

Bi-color boy. His feet are distinctly patterned now, but his face is still working on it. He will have a pink nose and white cheeks. I'm not sure yet whether he will have a blaze between his eyes.

Here's the high-white boy. Notice the white tip on his tail.

Here's the mitted girl with the kink in her tail.

And the sweet solids, both girls. The white on their noses will most likely disappear.

Look at us at five weeks! We're turning from babies to kids!

And We're Eating...Everything!

At six weeks we're still sticking to the safety of our loft...

...and at eight weeks, we're all over the place! Next stop: The vet for our shots and checkups. This is gonna be fun!
